Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in lowland western Washington; northwestern Washington to southwestern Oregon.

Habitat: Roadsides, fields and waste places.

Flowers: April-May

Origin: Introduced from Europe

Growth Duration: Perennial

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Description:
General:

Scapose, perennial herbs from bulbs, the bulbs ovoid, 3-4 cm. long and 1.5-2 cm. wide, the outer layer brown.

Leaves:

Leaves 4, flat, all basal, 20-40 cm. long and 6-10 mm. wide, green to glaucous.

Flowers:

Flowers fragrant, solitary on the scape; buds enclosed in a papery bract; perianth 5-7 cm. wide, the tube 2-3 cm. long; tepals 6, the distinct portions overlapping, white, spreading, ovate-obicular, 1.5-2.5 cm. long and 1.5-2 cm. wide; perianth tube surmounted by a cup-shaped corona, yellow with red, wavy margins; stamens 6, 3 included and 3 exerted; ovary inferior, 3-celled.
